McCrory: Budget surplus enough to trigger cuts to corporate tax rate
The final numbers are in, and it appears North Carolina's corporate tax rate is going down.
Gov. Pat McCrory?s office reported Tuesday that final figures for the fiscal year that ended June 30 show the state has a $445 million revenue surplus. That?s enough to trigger automatic cuts to the corporate tax rate under the tax-reform package adopted in 2013, McCrory says.
The law requires that the corporate tax rate be lowered by 1% if tax revenues exceed $20.2 billion by the end of fiscal 2014-15.?
Apple reportedly in talks to join forces with BMW on electric car
Apple Inc. is reportedly in talks with BMW about using its i3 vehicle as the building block for an electric car, according to a report from Business Insider.
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is interested in using the body of the BMW model i3 as the basis for its own vehicle, according to German-language publication Manager Magazin. The Cupertino, Calif.-based tech company reportedly has hundreds of employees working on "Project Titan," the code name for its effort to move into the automotive sector.
Hilton Garden Inn hotel planned for Waverly development in south Charlotte
A Hilton Garden Inn hotel is being planned for the Waverly mixed-use development in south Charlotte, according to real estate records.
The hotel would be located ?in the retail core of the development,? according to a filing with the city.
Childress Klein and Crosland Southeast are developing the 85-acre Waverly project at the intersection of Providence and Ardrey Kell roads in south Charlotte. They won a rezoning for the property last year that allowed for a 150-room hotel within the development?
Political sniping comes with Charlotte incentives deal
What seemed like a run-of-the-mill incentives package took a political turn on Monday night. A political turn to the right and the left.
On the right, the Charlotte City Council's two Republican members opposed spending $2.79 million in city taxpayer money as part of a $20 million incentives package for Dimensional Fund Advisors. And on the left, Michael Barnes, the Democratic mayor pro tem, lashed out at the governor?s office and the state for rushing the public announcement that the company?
Confirmed: Publix seeking uptown Charlotte location
Publix Super Markets Inc.'s future plans could include a location in uptown Charlotte.
The Lakeland, Fla. grocer has yet to nail down a location but is exploring options, Kim Reynolds, Charlotte media and community relations manager, said Tuesday at the Charlotte Rotary Club meeting.
?We would like to be in uptown,? she said. ?We?re looking all over the city.?
Publix already operates stores in several urban centers, she noted. ?We can get creative if it allows us to be in an urban?
